At round 4 Formula 2 was the prize class, there was some top racing with Lewis Parker taking te win and a £20 Bikestyle voucher, Matthew Drapper took second with Holly Black 3rd. Well done to all and good luck for the last round of winter series racing.

Ramsey BMX are pleased to announce the dates of their Summer Racing Series 2011, the Manx Championships and the 2011 prize presentation.

The Summer Series will be spread out from April through to August with racing on both Saturdays and Sundays, with some double header weekends. Venues are yet to be confirmed however the dates are as follows:

The Formula

The formula system of racing is aimed at mixing riders from different age groups dependant on results through the season to make closer and more competitive racing. There will be 4 categories (formulas 1, 2, 3 and 4). At the start of the season riders will be split, 15 years + (Formula 1) and the remainder equally into 3 more formulas dependant on rider entry numbers.

Points will be awarded for both moto positions and finals, with the top qualifying riders from moto’s getting the 1st pick in the main event. After racing the top 2 riders in formulas 3 and 4 will move up into the next formula and the bottom 2 riders in formulas 2 and 3 will move down to the lower category for the next event. If their are 4 riders in a class then 2 riders only will be subject to moving formula, the top and bottom rider only where applicable.

After the last event the riders will not move formulas and will remain in that category for final series rankings. Riders who join the series midway will be put into the formula that they would have ridden in based on age if joining at the start.

SUMMER COACHING SCHEMES

Ramsey BMX is happy to announce the track will be closed from 1000 - 1400hrs on the 12th, 13th, 23d and 24th of August. Happy the tracks closed? Yes.
We have joined together with the Sport Development Unit and will be offering 4 introdoction to BMX racing days for 8 - 11 and 12 - 15 year olds.

Coaching

Its now May, the first round of the club series has been and gone , the first national has happened with Colin making the main event and other great rides from the youth. This weekend saw the Sleepwell Hotels sponsored Youth Tour happen around the island so we thought we'd give racing a miss, instead Brian Barton, who works for British Cycling and has BMX in his blood came over to do a couple of coaching sessions.

Focusing on basic bike handling skills and giving the kids homework they can practice anywhere even when they can't make the track. The only big crash of the weekend was Juan "last time I get talked into demonstrating" Watney, cheers Brian. For more pics check out facebook.

The next round of racing is at Ramsey next Sunday, with signing on at 1030 and racing from 1130.

Its that time of year again

Okay riders, random start, riders ready, watch the gate...

There will be a 'come and try it' style open day at Ramsey track tomorrow (Sunday 11th April from around 11.30/12.00) - tell your friends!

The gate will be running and the sun will be shining (in intervals) - see, so come and get some practice in and throw down some style.The Lions Club will also be officially handing over the club hut at around 2.00pm. Hope to see as many club members and new faces as possible.

The official first race of the season is Sunday the 18th April!!!

On Saturday we took delivery of some new equipment for the club, courtesy of the Manx Radio Dream Catcher Appeal.The application was made to the charity to increase participation at the club, to give new riders a chance of having a go on a race bike and to give current riders the option to try out a size up before buying. We were given a DK expert race bike, as well as 2 intense junior bikes and an intense mini xl.We also collected 6 full face helmets and 6 pairs of gloves to make sure riders coming along to try out the sport are well protected.For more pictures check out our facebook page.

Introduction From Our Chairman – Mickey Cain

This is the first AGM in 5 years and now that we have a formal Committee we will be holding committee meetings monthly as well as Annual General Meetings.

Introduction To BMX Isle of Man Committee Members

Committee members present were introduced and their roles highlighted. All members that were not present were also mentioned and their roles explained. There will be a list drawn up with contact numbers which will then be laminated and displayed on ‘The Hut’ at Ramsey Track.

Registration Forms/Fees

New style registration forms will be available to download via the webpage and at the start of the racing season.

It was agreed that the annual membership fee would be set at £10, and £50 for 13 races (or £5 per individual race).

Proposed Race Dates

A 13 race series has been provisionally drawn up (with racing on a Sunday). Sign on from 10.30am (duration of 45mins) racing to start prompt at 11.15am.

It was discussed that ALL parents would be encouraged to help out with pre-race track maintenance.

*(Please note that if any off island races clash with Ramsey Isle of Man Bmx Club dates then we could arrange to race on a Saturday instead).

British Cycling software has now been purchased and Juan Watney is to set up our scoring system. The scoring system will be clearly displayed at ‘The Hut’ to avoid any confusion.

Off Island Racing

The dates and venues for all of the Regional and National events are now confirmed. We discussed organising a day trip (open to all members) – Preston on 30th May 2010 was mentioned as an option.

Club Coaching

Juan Watney and Dave Black to organise a coaching session during the school holidays. To possibly include the British Cycling coach who will be on Island for the Manx Youth Tour.

Bike Maintenance Session

Dave Black and Dibble to organise a Bike Maintenance Workshop – to teach club members basic maintenance/puncture repairs etc.

Douglas Track

There are ongoing problems with costing/weather/digger driver’s etc. The track layout is in place – however, it would appear that the late Spring target completion date will not be met.

Future Fund Raising Events

Open to Committee members to come up with some new and interesting suggestions how the club can raise some funds. Dawn McCann suggested a ‘pig racing’ night (!?) so watch this space!!

Sponsorship

We have 3 new sponsors this season: Expol, SVA and Manx Telecom. The club kit will be printed to highlight their company logos. Many thanks to all of our sponsors.

Any Other Business

All agreed that we should spend as much money as necessary to bring the track up to a reasonable standard and to fund digger hire rather than rely on small labour work parties. Also, agreed to the purchase of a small wacker plate.

Summer Series 2010

Here it is guys, what you've all been waiting for, details of the 13 round Summer Series 2010.

The poster for the series can be downloaded HERE. Please feel free to print it off and advertise the series.

The first date of the series will be SUNDAY 18th APRIL. Signing on from 1030 - 1100. Racing hopefully from 1200 (to give time to input rider data into the new race software).

Following events will take place 9th & 23rd May, 20th* & 27th* June, 11th*, 18th & 25th July, 1st, 15th & 22nd August and 11th & 12th September.

Entry into the series can be paid for as a one off payment of £50, giving you 3 free races, or you can pay £5 per round at each event.

Ramsey BMX Club is registered to British Cycling, and racing will follow their BMX specific regulations.

* Due to a clash with North Region BMX's Summer Series the dates for rounds 4, 5 and / or 6 may be subject to change. Information regarding this will be posted here.

Over the winter not alot has been happening at the track due to poor weather, however lots is happening behind the scenes. The more observant of you may have notice douglas track has been flattened and a fence errected around the work area, you may have also noticed in the press that they are looking at building a new track and have money, I can't say more than that, but you join the dots.

A facebook page was setup "as an info data base and for general chat and sharing of various photos, videos etc and banter." However the site's open nature has been abused by some people hiding behind fake names and making non productive comments that may have caused offence, this will not be tolerated and the site is under close monitoring over the next month. It was decided at the committee meeting last night that members making abusive and non productive comments should be removed but the group should remain open to the public. This is up for review at the next meeting. For those of you whose intentions are pure, feel free to have a browse, enjoy the page and become a fan.

ALL official club statements will be made via the website, e-mail and/or posted at the club.

So we had a nice relaxed night last night, thanks to all the dads who picked up tools and helped. After a busy day with the digger Crooky and help widened the first straight, 1st corner and then attacked the last berm!!! I honestly think we know have one of the biggest last berms in the country, good times, it should make for some good racing and even faster last straight action.There is racing this Sunday with registraton from 1030. Keep your eyes on the news to see some of 11 - 16 year olds who access The Academy, a coaching based scheme set up byThe IoM Cycling Association. With Cav doing so well in the tour the BBC are keen to cover more cycling in the news, I can't tell you times but keep your eyes peeled.

And for those of you who are thinking about buying kit, next years BMX ISLE OF MAN race top will be the Fly racing Kinetic jersey in black and white. So get yourselves some Fly racing F-16 pants in black. The top is not available yet but we'll keep you in the loop from early next year.

Practice Thursday

Time is flying by, and we had a great race last Tuesday night with 44 riders in attendance for the first ever Ramsey BMX evening race. This was a one off to take advantage of the huge numbers attending to watch the evening of events in the park. All I have heard since then is positive comments from the locals about the club.We had a nice easy practice session in the sun last Thursday and again a nice relaxed session on Sunday with everyone putting some good times down. There is practice on Thursday this week 6 - 7:30 and then racing on Sunday from 1030.You may also notice that the track keeps changing, we know that some people are not completely happy with all the changes but the increase in everyones riding ability is helped out by how challenging the track is becoming, your all great riders and getting better everyday so challenge yourself and try new things. On that note, you may notice a digger at the track on Thursday this week, if you do go down before practice, beware not to get in its way as it is there to make a couple more changes. Crooky is in charge.

Goldcoast

History in the making

For the first time ever BMXers on the Isle of Man will have to choose where to go to practice this Thursday night!From 5 till 6:30 there will be a practice session taking place at the freshly dug Peel Headlands track. For those who haven't been it is a 2 man play track that is 200m long, has 4 straights joined by 3 tight 180 berms, a great little track for learning the basics and fine tuning your BMX skills. As another bonus for your folks, the view isn't bad. Check out the pictures on the BBC.AND... From 6 in Ramsey we will be running our usual thursday night gate sessions.

Round 4

Round 4 of the BMX summer series took place in perfect conditions at the Mooragh Park site last Sunday with just under 40 riders taking part. The riders are just finding form and getting used to recent changes to the track, with more changes taking place mid season to test them further.

The Splinters DIY Club series saw Dillon Dowson outpace Zak Walker in the 5's, Matt Black was on the gas in the 6's for max points from Marcus Hanlon and Ryan Quirk with an impressive ride from Lucy Corkish making sure the boys didn't have it all their own way, Charlie Gibson took full points in the 7's with Aaron Lund doing well for 2nd spot from hard working Nick Kissack. Tyler Cain won the 8's in another close race with Max Walker and returning Own Stewart in 3rd spot, newcomer Chris Moore performed well. The 9's was taken by Luke Murray with the other riders swapping places in each moto with Josh Kelly getting 2nd spot from Jake Mortimer and Lewis Parker. Argy Bargy rides in the 10's saw Liam McCann outfox Marcus Simpson for top points with Jack Kissack in 3rd from Cian Brock, the 11's and 12's ran together with Rory McCann taking the honours from the Black sisters, with younger sis Holly riding on top form to beat Sophie. Ryan Dean returned in the 14 & unders but was beaten in each moto by Brandon Cain. The returning Luke Stewart found it hard work with Big guns with impressive rides from all riders with Paul Crook's power enough to take the honours from Steve Kelly & Chris Murray.

The Colas IOM Open series saw Matt Black win the Novice, Charlie Gibson the Intermediate, Marcus Simpson won the Junior, Ryan Dean the Experts and Paul Crook the Superclass race. All A and B heats were close affairs and each rider giving it their all. The last race of the day saw a spectacular crash for young Tyler Cain on his 8th birthday with the steer tube on the forks snapping resulting in a horrible fall with bike parts strewn across the track, but thank you to all for their quick response and attention he recovered to blow out the candles! Derby Nationals rounds 1 + 2

Its been and gone, it was a tough weekend but the team have done us proud. We met up at the Blacks on Friday morning at 7am and headed over to pick up the Crooks and Wattersons. Paul needed that extra wake up call or he may have missed the trip completely. We all got on the boat and set sail...

The boys kept themselves busy playing computer games as the older ones debated track alterations.

All the watching of video's and racing at Ramsey didn't really have anyone fully prepared for Derby track, it was big, long and once again after a long winter break everyone had really upped their game on the national circuit leaving the manx with a lot of work to do. So on the way down it was good to just clear your head and not worry about what was going to happen, Crooky senior had convinced himself he was going to have a big off, Juan had convinced himself he wasn't going to be in it on the first straight, Matt was excited to prove himself after last years brits, and the rest of the crew where looking forward to their first ever UK BMX National.

The weekend went well with everyone doing themselves proud, it was a big stage to prove yourself on and it was definately an eye opener for some. Matt took a 3rd both days in the B final of the 6 and unders and is currently in 11th overall. Liam got 7th in the B on Saturday and lost out in the run off on Sunday in the 7's to be sitting 17th. Zach goto moto'd both days in a tough 9's class and is 22nd. Holly was moto's both days but sits 21st in the series for 10-12 girls. Sophie who turned 13 on saturday came 4th in the B both days in the 13-15 girls and is in 12th overall. Juan got a 6th on Saturday and a 4th on Sunday in 16-29 cruiser and is currently equaling his ranking of 5th.Well done to all, if you didn't make it, speak to someone who did, attending at least one away race this year is a must, it really is a great weekend out with some top quality racing. All the guys who where there will be happy to talk about their experience. Matt Black may even be taking up cruiser ;)See you at gate practice on Thursday - 1800 - 2000, £1. So we have had such a massive push over winter and the club has moved from strength to strength. We are halfway to having 2 qualified British Cycling Level 2 Cycling coaches and in May Juan will be going to the UK to a BMX coaches forum for selected BMX coaches in the UK to bounce idea's off each other with British Cyclings top BMX coaching team. You may have already noticed Stu Brew from the mountainbike club also coming to coach, it is great that members of other clubs have identified our great structure and acknowledged our big push at a grass roots level.In the next month or so we will have a newly appointed Club welfare officer, to deal with any issues of good practice and child protection in all aspects of club activities. This will make us the first cycling club on the island to have this facility and we will be a picture of where all the other clubs should be aiming.The biggest change for most of you guys though are the track alterations. Hopefully this is just the continuation of a big re-design to continue bringing the club bang up to date with other UK tracks and even some Euro venues. Colas have been down there today with the roller and are working the track to get it riding sweet.Over the summer we have lots of other events planned, such as an open day on the 9th of June, aimed at presenting BMX to the masses, as the park should be filled for the Ramsey Sprint. A club trip away to Goldcoast BMX club in Lytham on Tynwald Day weekend, an evening of racing on the 7th of July as Ramsey Town Commissioners put on events all over the park as well as club riders attending all national events, possibly the European round and Cheddar and the British Championships.

So on Saturday could you all please make an effort to get down to the track and lend a hand with final preperations for the COME AND TRY DAY on Sunday the 29th of April. Which will be starting at 11am, we will have signing on for this season, gate & track practice, cycle & BMX specific coaching as well as big race.

Its that time of year again, thanks to all who have helped over the past couple of weeks, we had 4 days of putting down alot of effort at the track and have made some big changes, it was great to see the track buzzing with visitors on Sunday as the newly done 3rd straight was riding ok. There is a bit more work to do to tidy things up and get some surface down but that should be done by the dads on Sunday.

We will have open practice from 11am on Sunday with another coaching session delivered by Stu Brew at 12 o'clock so come down, enjoy the sun, pick up a spade ;) and have some fun.

The annual come and try day is on the 29th of March, the press will be down and hopefully we will have the prize presentation from the winter series that day as well. Please print off some posters (CLICK to enlarge) and stick them up wherever you can, the more people we get racing the more fun it will be.

First things first, can all club members please fill in a RIDER CONSENT FORM and return it to the club as soon as possible. All riders must have a completed form to take part in club activities.

In other news as the winter series has come to an end the summer moves ever nearer, in the short gap we have before our summer really starts with the annual club "come and try" day on the 29th of March we are undertaking a big facelift. A good work party made it down this weekend with the major work taking place on Saturday with the help of you guys and a digger. For those of you who didn't make it down check the pics...

On Sunday with the track being partly torn up we did not hold gate practice, instead, Stu Brew came down from the MMBC to run a session, both to give the riders someone else to listen to but to show him how good our riders are. Here they are doing a go ride session - "ride the circle"

Next Saturday there will be work going on at the track from 9am, if you can spare some time please come down and lend a hand as we push to get the 3rd straight completed and tidy up the edges to give the track some time to bed in before the season starts.

There will be practice and some work going on Sunday from 11 - 1 depending on how much we get done on Saturday.

We have had some great feedback from the riders and spectators about the first winter series that the club has ever held. Dont forget on Saturday we will be having a work party at the track with a digger and some major re-construction on the 1st, 3rd and last straights before the come and try day on the 29th March and the first round of the Summer Series on the 5th April. Sunday we will be running some bike handling skills sessions on the grass and the track will hopefully be ridable on some sections so come along then too.

Hi all,

We were impressed with the braveheart's that turned up for this Sunday's winter round, only to be disappointed that Saturday night's downpour left the track submerged in a few places and racing couldn't take place. Next Sunday (1st feb) will hold round 4 of the Alloms sponsored race series with round 5 the following week as scheduled.

We aim to have the troubled areas sorted by late spring with a (higher track and some extra drainage) so that another summer of rain won't stop the action to stop fun like this going down, if you are going to lose a glove on the track - I could think of better places to lose it. Top effort from this rider and I am sure his mum gave him a reward once he was back on dry land.

Some great efforts from the spectacle race provided from new cruiser rider Paul Crook, Juan & Steve Kelly - wasn't sure whether they were pedalling or paddling in some parts - Paul got the win by an 'armband'. A lot of kids were unfazed by the water with Matty mayhem - getting into hot water with his Dad, Wozza going for one last ride - water up to his knees, Charlie - playing water polo/football with Tyler & Liam Crook, Holly on a debut spill into a trough of water, and the rest of the brave riders having a great splash - hope you all have WD40 to hand on those cranks etc

For those who travelled to the Brits - the grant application should be getting signed off by the Cycling association and once we get the grant I should be able to distribute. The dates for the summer series have been provisionally agreed and should be up on here within the next couple of weeks so keep checking back.
Top Marks to the Kissack crew this week with their brand spanking new 'Felt' racers - top gear and it was a pity that they didn't get to race on them - a lot lighter that their previous bikes so expect improved rides from these kids. If you are after a new race bike locally, Outdoors in Ramsey stocks DK and can get hold of any of the their full range and Bikestyle are the official Haro and Felt stockists.

Race 3 results

Sunday 28th of December was round 3 of the Alloms Jewellers sponsored Ramsey BMX winter series. Due to technical problems racing was cut short and final points where dished out on a grand prix style points system.Formula 4 saw the biggest class of the day with 9 riders all battling for the #1 spot, Cian Brock took the points with Harry Brown, Nick Kissack and Matt Black close behind, Matt is now 12 points clear at the top of F4. In F3 Max Walker took the win just ahead of Jack Kissack, Tyler Cain is the rider sitting at the top of Formula 3 only 4 points ahead of young Charlie Gibson.

In Formula 2 Brandon Cain was unbeaten with Rory McCann in 2nd and Tom Murray in 3rd, George Sharp is leading F2 at the moment with Tom Murray slightly adrift in 2nd. Juan Watney won Formula 1 to extend is unbeaten run and sits clear at the top of the table at the midway point. The next race is on the 18th of January at Ramsey BMX track, with gate practices being held every Sunday from 11 till 1.

What's going on?

Park Lane, the access road running parallel to the 2nd straight of the track has been closed by RTC for the winter to let the grass recover after this wet summer and is due to be opened again in spring of 2009. This means that we ask all visitors to Ramsey BMX track to park in the car park next to skate park and be mindful of other road users for both your and their safety.

The planned track work for Saturday has been pencilled in for Sunday so if you have some free time pop by and lend a hand. Due to the nature of the help given to us by Lezayre Landscapes our work force has to be pretty flexible around Max's other jobs. Some of the broadsheet readers among you may have noticed that in Monday's Isle of Man Examiner there was an article on the work the the club does to make Ramsey BMX track a great resource for the Island so thank you to Sam Comaish-Coole who wrote a letter to the paper a few weeks ago, not just for that but for picking up a rake and helping build. For those of you that missed it it can be found here.

The final series standings for the Summer 2008 series will be in next Friday's Manx Independant so dont forget to pick it up.

Juan, national #5

Well done to Juan who competed in Preston this week in the last round of the national series, after qualifying 4th for the final, he got an 8th on the day and a 5th overall for the year. It has been a mixed year for Juan after some great results at the start of the season only to get sidelined for 6 weeks with a shoulder injury mid season so this result is well deserved.

Dates Galore

Well done to everybody that has raced this year, its been a long season and the racing has been faster than ever with some really close battles, like Ryan and Brandon (above). Instead of taking a back seat over winter as has happened in the past couple of seasons we are going to take a couple of weeks rest and then kick back with gates so get your diary out because here are some dates for you.

There will be a work party at the track on the 18th of October, Max will be down from Lezayre Landscapes with the digger so come down at any time after 9am and lend a hand.

Gate practice is going to start on the 26th of October from 11oohrs to 1300hrs at a cost of £1.

The Club prize presentation is on the 8th of November, keep checking your e-mails about that one.

The club winter series will start on the 16th of November, with the following dates provisionally set for the other 5 rounds;

As for last weekends racing, there was a great turnout with 36 riders all competing in great racing with the usual crowd out in front of their packs. The tag race at the end was won by Team Mickey Cain well done to them, Juans team in 2nd, Stephens in 3rd and Luke Stewarts boys rounding of a good day for Ramsey BMX.

Thanks to those that attended Tuesday nights gate session. It was only a short one but be sure to remember that every second on your bike is going to make you faster. The final round of racing will be on this Sunday with signing on at 1:45pm, please come down no matter what the weather and enjoy the extra events Mickey has planned.

There have been another couple of tweaks around the 1st corner and now we're just waiting on some more surface to get it running perfectly smooth. The top of the 1st berm now has a viewing platform on top and the jump into the bomb-hole has been changed to give it more flow. After Thursdays building action a few riders met up on Thursday night to make the most of the good weather and rode the new corner and 2nd straight until it was dark. On Saturday Max from Lezayre Landscapes came over to the track on a mission and he and Juan where there from 8:30am until 7 trying to get the track ready to race on Sunday.

The 1st duty of care was to the drainage issue on the 1st corner, it took a long time to get sorted and didn't really look like much had been done afterwards but it had. There is now a 6 foot deep drainage hole on the inside of the 1st corner and we have widened the track by about 2 metres making for loads more room for moves around the 1st corner.With it being a nice day loads of kids had come down to ride and naturally come over to see what was going on, well there where loads of yellow machines, so of course its exciting. The local riders offered to help so we gave them jobs, mainly spreading out surface but all help is greatly appreciated.After the first corner was finished we moved onto the double into the bomb-hole. What could have been a big effort turned into quite a quick affair with children and parents helping fine tune, trample down and put surface on and we where finished in half the time it would have taken if it where just Juan and Max.A big thank you to all the riders and parents that helped out, keep checking back for details of more work parties. The more people that help, the more we can get done and the better the track will be. And remember guys, the track is a work in progress, all feedback is welcomed and changing things is always on the cards.

Welcome to the Ramsey BMX Club's blogspot. In the past year the clubs website has fallen by the wayside with problems with hackers and and increased price of website management a blogspot seems the way forway for the club, following on from the increased use of Blogspot within the UK BMX scene with riders like our own Juan, 19+ star Dan Clifford, team's such as Alans BMX Race Team and clubs like Cheshire Ghost Riders.
